From sweeping views and nearby moors to our family-run retreat and its rich heritage, there’s plenty to discover – and plenty of space to simply switch off and unwind.
Our Family
Thorndon Farm is very much a family affair. Ian and Jeni are the fourth generation of Southwoods to live here, and their four children are already part of the story – helping to care for pigs, a collection of pets, and the famously cheeky Shetland pony, Monty. Life follows the seasons, with early mornings, wellies at the door, and the simple joy of being outdoors. Though the farm is no longer run as it once was, its heart is still full of life, laughter, and a love for the land – something guests often feel the moment they arrive on for their farm holiday.
Our Farm
Set among quiet fields and winding hedgerows, Thorndon Farm has been part of the Southwood family for generations. What was once a busy working farm has gradually evolved into a rural retreat, offering guests the chance to slow down and soak in the beauty of the Devon countryside. The land is still grazed by a neighbouring farmer’s dairy herd, but the focus now is on creating a haven for both people and wildlife. With 115 acres of space to explore, it’s a place where nature is gently returning – and where life moves at a much more peaceful pace.
Our Location
We’re tucked away in the heart of rural Devon, just outside the little village of East Worlington. It’s wonderfully peaceful here – surrounded by fields, wildlife, and big open skies. We love how central the farm is for exploring: Dartmoor and Exmoor are both less than 20 miles away, and the north Devon coast isn’t far either. Whether you want to go walking, cycling or just relax and switch off, our spot offers a true countryside escape with plenty to see and do nearby.
Accommodation
Harriet’s Hideaway is a cosy and private space we’ve created with comfort and relaxation in mind. It has its own entrance, a comfy bedroom, modern shower room, and a bright open-plan living area with a kitchenette for easy self-catering. Outside, there’s a hot tub just for you – perfect after a day exploring. Whether you’re here for a romantic break or some much-needed peace and quiet, we hope you’ll feel at home and enjoy the little touches we’ve added to make your stay special.
